The Seedy Side

Picked from a family of six
Chose to help with what He had planned
I’m living on the seedy side
And giving God a helping hand

My siblings all have their own homes
They sneer at my one bedroom flat
They have bank accounts and nice cars
But that’s not where my hearts at

I enjoy smiles on faces
Of families I house and feed
Lending a shoulder where needed
Each day planting at least one seed

Teaching them all with the Lord’s love
Turning sorrow to hope and joy
Tears disappear like sweet magic
For almost every girl and boy

There are some I can’t seem to reach
And for them I have special prayers
I know He’ll lead them to someone
Who will convince them that He cares

I’m asking you all to join me
In prayer for the needy out there
Dig in your cupboards and basements
Show the lost that you too can share

A coat with a hole in it’s sleeve
Can so easily be mended
The lonely lost soul on the street
Against the cold now defended

Canned goods, old pots, pans, and dishes
Never used sitting on the shelf
These all help heart, soul, and spirit
Meals in a belly certain wealth

Kindness will draw those seeking souls
And open hearts to the Lord’s touch
If all worldwide gave just one thing
To others it could mean so much

I’m asking you all to join me
On what they call the seedy side
Let’s give from His heart within us
And pray they let God be their guide

Be Born Again

Suicidal thoughts and tendencies
I've been there before
Where everywhere you turn for help
You find a solidly locked door

When tears are from the spirit
Never reaching a pair of ears
A heart and soul reaching for help
A release from all their fears

Unable to see the promise
Shinning upon the earth each morn
Looking for a heart that's been there
Wanting to die...to live...completely torn

When you're weak and need a hand
And find only those balled in fists
May God use me to comfort you...
To teach you the lesson you missed

If this life has got you down
You're invited to be reborn
To start over as a wee baby
To strive for a better form

One thing I can promise you friend
There's a hand held out to you
You'll know it by the scar in it's palm
A reminder of what He went through

Let me welcome you to my family
We're here to help fulfill His plan
Let's all pray for the world together...
He died then rose just so we can

Heart Auction

Have you ever been to an auction
Where they only bid on hearts
They're all bought marked "as is"
It's explained before the bidding starts

One by one hearts are brought forward
Some bold some cringing in fear
Some resembling fine works of art
And some love had never been near

Each heart carries a life's secrets
Some carry more than just one
Many hearts were paraded before me
Before the auctioneer's job was done

I didn't want a perfect heart
Nor one awash with burdens galore
I wanted an average heart like mine
So mine wouldn't be lonely anymore

Some hearts beat so happily
As if they've had a rich life
Such wealth had befallen on them
They'd had only brushes with strife

A few hearts beat very quietly
As if they were indeed shy
There were some that gave the feeling
They didn't know truth from lie

Many had such raggedly edges
Some looked as smooth as glass
A few held a feeling of promise
An even dozen had no class

I watched as all the hearts
Were being sold one by one
Until the auctioneer finally said
"That's all folks! This auction is done."

But I still hadn't the heart
That I so wanted to find
I felt keen desperation
Felt half out of my mind

The auctioneer saw my distress
And pondered a moment or two
He'd saved a small heart for himself
But now felt torn on what to do

As he indeed had many hearts
Sitting upon his auctioneer's shelf
This one really wasn't so special
He argued deep within himself

While, money back in my pocket
I was just heading out the door
"Hey Miss, if you still want a heart,
I have just found one more!"

I vowed I would take it
No matter what it's background
My heart was breaking in pieces
With no other heart around

The heart was completely compatable
Because it was cracked I got it free
Now my heart sings and rejoices
Fate smiled on two hearts...and me

Welcome

We've been called fools
on more then one occassion,
for opening our doors wide
To those from every nation.

We take in the poor and down
with evictions in their past;
Some had trouble with the law,
and found those thrills don't last.

We take the young mothers
with children and no home;
Families knowing only abuse,
hide here to be left alone.

We take in the hungry and tired;
Give them food and a warm bed.
We feed their souls kindness
wanting to reach heart and head.

To grant them a new beginning;
To help them gain their feet and stand;
To find the right road to travel,
all they need is a guiding hand.

We love our job and will continue,
to help all those that come by.
You may well ask who "we" is...
Why, of course, it's my Lord, and I!

More From Linda

Cindy, this is just totally awesome!!! Your site has so much touched my life. The poets, the poetry, and you yourself...medicine for a thirsting soul. Your site has given me what I have looked for all my life. Acceptance, support, and understanding. In other words, real friendships. Thank you, and may God continue to bless your site.

I have written poetry from 8 years of age, and will soon turn 49. My poetry was a private vessel I created to carry all my thoughts and emotions. It was how I survived an abusive childhood. I started sharing it when I was 32, to show others they were not alone.

The members of this site, and their awesome support, have lead me to experiment with different forms of poetry. I have learned much to help with not just my poetry, but with my life as well.
